三州华美化学会新年聚会:辞旧迎新,继续发展

2008年,除了中国的北京奥运闪亮世界,美国的奥巴马选举史无前例外,并不是 什么好彩头的年月,被称为灾难之年实属有情可原。中国的汶川地震,波 及世界的经济海啸,无一不冲击着我们平常人的日子。然而,2008年对三州 华美化学会来说,却是收获甚丰的一年。三州华美化学会2008年会长胡 龙勤新年聚会上总结了一年的工作,为汶川受灾群众捐款,相聚 长江三角洲活动,以及吸引了三百多人的并获得一致好评的年会 。。。这一年,三州华美化学会也得到了众多公司的大力赞助。


三州华美化学会于一月十八日下午在太阳宫大饭店成功举办了新年 聚会。一百四十多位会员和家属参加了这一聚会。会上,学会的十一 名董事登台亮相,2007年学会会长陈国栋负责向大家一一做了介绍。 上届会长胡龙勤为大家做了“2008年回顾”,并郑重感谢为学会做出了 贡献的志愿者,除了现任的董事们之外,曹光,王玉光,武晓秋,李 方标,陈国栋等为学会做了许多幕后幕前的事情。另外几 位少年学生也为积极为学会做义工,他们分别是Lingfeng Zhou, Conn ie Yang, Tracy Wang, 和Andy Xu。现任会长王旭红接着与大家分享“展望 2009”,讲述学会在2009年计划要做的几件大事情,比如每年六月举办 的学会年会,今年八月将与中国专利局和药检局联合举办的两个 国际会议等等,王旭红号召志愿者积极参入学会的活动,与学会 的董事们与活动的组织者们一起做事。在新年聚会上,五名新董 事也加入了服务大家的行列中, 而在BMS制药公司工 作的张渡溪当选下任会长,将于2010年走马上任。

张渡溪主持了“青年化学家奖”的发奖仪式。今年多名高中生申请了学会的 “青年化学家奖”,最终四名优秀的青年学生获得了这一荣誉,他们分别是 West Windsor-Plainsboro 高中(South)的周凌峰),John P. Stevens 高中 的蒲凯威,Holmdel 高中的赖彦如和Montgomery 高中的杨牧。 每一位高中生不仅有 共同的优秀之处,更有自己独到的特点,相信他们将有美好的前程。

新年聚会的组织者为大家准备了一台非常精美的节目。新颖之处是所有的表演 者均为“内部人员”:会员和会员的家属(太太和孩子)。主持节目的会长王旭红与下 届会长张渡溪感叹:学会确实卧虎藏龙,会员们亲友们堪称多才多艺。今年刚刚成为 终身会员的顾鸣争是学会的特别会员,多年支持学会的工作。她也是新州知名的活跃 分子。她一登台便给大家带来了笑声和掌声,而她的歌声更让人陶醉不已。三位会 员的孩子们给大家带来活泼可爱的少儿舞蹈,让人忘却烦恼。二位女士的民族舞蹈“高 原红”和“牧羊曲”又把大家带回了祖国故乡。另外二个节目别出心裁,一个是用梁祝 舞曲编排的拉丁舞,中外组合,令人耳目一新。而一位会员用只有八个音的极小口琴( 大约三厘米长)吹出了动听的乐曲,实在是让人拍案惊奇。新年聚会在明快的舞曲中结束了。 会长王旭红再次祝福大家新春快乐事事如意,并与大家再次真诚相约2009,2009年三州华美化学会的活动上见!。

Tri-State CACS Successfully Holds New Year Celebration and Annual Elections

Every year, Tri‑State CACS organizes a New Year party to celebrate a year of accomplishments, to welcome the New Year with hope and new activities, to recruit new members, to hold annual elections, and to honor recipients of the Tri-State CACS Outstanding Service Award and Young Chemist Award. This year's New Year celebration and annual election party was successfully held in Sunny Palace in East Brunswick, NJ on Sunday, January 18, 2009 and was attended by over 140 members and friends. This year's party was emceed by Sunny Wang, the President for 2009, and Duxi Zhang, the new President-Elect. The party featured music, dances, and vocal performances by members and their families and friends. The evening was both productive and entertaining.

Prof. Longqin Hu , President for 2008, summarized the past year's activities that included collecting donations to help the Victims of Sichuan Earthquake, sending a delegation to participate in a meeting at the Yangtze River Triangle, and organizing the successful June CACS Annual Symposium. On June 7, 2008, the Tri-State CACS organized the 2008 Tri-State CACS Annual Symposium at Rutgers University . The theme of the June symposium was “Challenges and Opportunities of Globalization in Pharmaceutical and Chemical R&D.” Keynote and invited speakers included R&D leaders from such international chemical and pharmaceutical corporations as Bristol-Myers Squibb, Schering-Plough, sanofi-aventis, and Rohm & Haas . The Annual Symposium attracted around 300 chemical professionals and students from New Jersey , New York , Pennsylvania , Connecticut , and Delaware . At the end of his speech, Prof. Hu thanked all members and board members, especially, Guang Cao, Yuguang Wang, Xiaoqiu Wu, Fangbiao Li, Guodong Chen, and Sunny Wang, for their contributions to 2008 CACS activities. He acknowledged the many sponsors of 2008 Tri-State CACS activities including the long-time corporate supporters like Schering-Plough, Merck, Wyeth, and ExxonMobil and several new ones like Rohm and Haas, Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett & Dunner, Scully Scott Murphy & Presser, and Agilent. He also thanked the student volunteers, Lingfeng Zhou, Connie Yang, Tracy Wang, and Andy Xu for their help with the registration during the Annual Symposium.

Ms. Sunny Wang, the new President for 2009, presented an outlook on activities planned for the coming year. In addition to the June Annual Symposium, Tri-State CACS is planning two international conferences in Beijing : one is the Second Beijing International Pharmaceutical and Chemical IP Form on August 5-8, 2009 and the other is the Third Beijing International Pharmaceutical R&D Forum on August 11-13, 2009. She asked for active participation and support from members and board directors in these activities.

At the New Year Party, five new Executive Board directors were elected: they were Dr. Jinquan Dong from Johnson and Johnson, Dr. Wenni Li from Catalent Pharma Solutions, Drs. Quinn K. Tong and Bin Wei from Henkel Corporation, and Dr. Teng Xu from ExxonMobil . Each will serve a three-year term. Dr. Duxi Zhang from Bristol-Myers Squibb , who has been a member of the Board of Directors with the Tri-State CACS for the last two years, was elected the President-Elect and will become the President in 2010. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Zhang encouraged all members to actively participate in the Tri-State CACS activities and use our society as a platform for networking and career development.

Dr. Yuguang Wang, President for 2005, presented the Tri-State CACS Outstanding Service Award to Dr. Guodong Chen, President for 2007, for his outstanding contributions to the Tri-State CACS. Under Dr. Chen's leadership, the Tri-State CACS successfully held the 2nd Beijing International Pharmaceutical R&D Forum, which provided a platform for scientific exchange and discussion of the latest development in pharmaceutical R&D in both China and the US .

Dr. Duxi Zhang, the President-Elect, announced the recipients of this year's Young Chemist Award. Among the many highly qualified candidates, four outstanding high school students, Lingfeng Zhou from West Windsor Plainsboro High School South, Kenneth Pu from John P. Stevens High School, Erica Lai from Holmdel High School, and Monica Yang from Montgomery High School, were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements in chemistry-related disciplines. This annual award encourages interest in chemistry and science among high school students, and has been a popular program since its inception in 2003.

The event provided entertainment as members and their families and friends performed songs and dances. The entertainment portion of the program included vocal performances by the well-known singer and now lifetime member Mingzhen Gu, a Mongolian dance by Wei Li (a member), two Chinese folk dances “The South of Rainbow” and “Pretty Actresses” by children of our members, a Spanish dance by Boya Xia, ballroom dancing by Tao Ying, and mini harmonica performances by George Chiu. Special gifts were also presented at the party to members who were the first to arrive at the party, who drove the longest distance to the party, who brought the youngest child to the party, and who has been a member the longest.

The New Year Party ended with the happy music and dances by members. Sunny Wang, President for 2009 , wished everyone a happy Niu Year and hoped to see everyone in future CACS activities in 2009.
